Cabins built by Nels Yost and rented to railroad construction workers. There are cherry and apple trees behind the cabins, close to the riverbank. They were located north of where the Colorado River Road meets Hwy 6. The photo was printed on April 2, 1933. The automobile at right appears to have a flat tire.

5) Nels Yost

John Nelson "Nels" Yost, standing at a bridge. He is wearing overalls and has a pocket watch on a chain. He was born in Quincy, Illinois, on Dec. 13, 1853, and came to Leadville, Colorado, in 1877. There he married Lilly Cook in 1888. He came to Eagle County, driving stage and a freighting outfit between Leadville and Glenwood Springs. After the railroad arrived, he located at Dotsero. 7) Wolcott

Wolcott, Colorado, in September 1947.
The Wolcott bridge over the Eagle River is visible at midfield. It was a Luten arch bridge, constructed in 1916, and has since been replaced.
Lena Yost's father, Frank Sansosti, was the D&RG section foreman at Wolcott for many years. The railroad depot and section house are next to the tracks in this photo. The Sansosti family lived at Wolcott for 27 years.
