7) Avon Store

The old Avon Store and the shed next to it, located on the north west corner of Avon Road (above the building) and Hwy 6 (in front of the building). The Avon bridge crosses the Eagle River. The store is unused in this photo. It was moved to Chambers Park and the Information Center in Eagle as part of the Eagle County Historical Society museum complex.

"The ranch buildings on what later became the Black Mountain Ranch. When this picture was taken in 1935 [photo has both 1934 and 1936 written on it], it was a working ranch (with emphasis on work) and had about fifty acres under cultivation, the balance of the 1,100 acres was pasture and timberland. Pioneers named the hill in the background Sawmill Mountain. Until 1915 the hill was a paradise for grouse and to see fifty or sixty in a flock was...

14) Pando cabin

15) Avon School

Emma Edwards standing in front of the homestead cabin in winter.
Emma wrote in little Joe's [Joseph Klyde Edwards] baby book, 1925: "When you were 5 months old we were going over to your Grandma Millers in the sleigh. One runner ran up on the bank and the other in the soft snow making the sleigh tip over on its side and threw you and me out in the snowdrift. Alfred Benson's log cabin (hewn inside) on Shrine Pass FSR (Forest Service Road) 709. His skid horse in harness for pulling logs is standing outside. There are several cabins (log and board), a blacksmith shop and a barn at the site.
