Old State Bridge structure in July of 1983, taken from State Highway 131 (south of the bridge). The southern half of the bridge collapsed soon after this photo was taken. The State Bridge Lodge is in the background.

7) North McCoy

Looking north from McCoy Lane, with Rock Creek flowing through the tree line in the background. There are several log buildings, including a barn at midground. In front of the barn is a root cellar in the embankment.

Minturn's main street in May--June 1957. Minturn Mercantile store is on the right, Williams Motel on the left. The main street is packed and oiled dirt.
The photo is a good example of an ink caption bleeding through the photograph (examine upper left).
9) McCoy lane

"The McCoy lane looking west. This 1912 photo [says 1911 on verso of photo] shows the front part of the Hotel on the left, [on the right] the blacksmith shop, the big red barn and the front of the old log barn and beyond it, the bridge across Rock Creek. The big barn, approximately fifty by sixty feet in size, was of frame construction and built by C. H. McCoy in 1902. It had stalls for twenty horses and a loft that held ten tons of loose hay....

Aerial photograph taken by Mayo Lanning on February 3, 1998. Housing for workers at the Gilman Mine is shown in the center of the photograph. The Lanning family lived in the center of the top row of houses, just below Hwy 24, which curves into the background. Water tanks are visible adjacent to Hwy 24.

Original Avon School before addition, taken prior to 1915. The horse barn has not been built. Fence surrounding school yard visible. Shows the Eagle River on right with "water spruce" hanging over the river and Johnson Lane (named for homesteader Joe Johnson) that was the road into Bachelor Gulch. "In some respects similar to the preceeding picture [1992.004A.084], but taken about 1924. Trees obstruct a view of the Hotel and several buildings in back of it that haver never shown in any of the many photographs of McCoy. The little building in the foreground has served as living quarters for a number of people in past years, but is presently the McCoy Post Office. The small white building on the left was built by the Brooks Brothers in 1914....

Avon Amusement Center on left side of Hwy 6. Building was destroyed in c1948 when Hwy 6 was widened. Avon General Store on right (view is looking south to Beaver Creek) Store destroyed c1980. Photo is taken just south of the old Avon bridge in about the same location as photo 1986.001.161.

15) Horn Ranch

The camel-back bridge over the Eagle River on U.S. Hwy 6 & 24, approximately 5-6 miles east of Eagle, Colorado.Behind the train, is the Leonard Horn ranch with ranch houses to the left of the tall pine tree at center. Rube Creek flows by the ranch houses. The dirt road at left goes to the ranch.

The Eagle River at Edwards [Wilmore stop]. Lettuce shed next to the railroad with the old water tank in the background. Benny Klatt's home and small store on Highway 6. Benny Klatt was killed by his brother-in-law, William Wellington, over the ownership of the cabin in which Wellington lived.
