At the time, Bud was a T-5 (corporal) and a medic in the 193 Regiment of the 41st Division. "I have no idea what ship we were on, we spent so much time on ships that it was easy to lose track. I was 22 years old at the time."

He retired in 1975 as the youngest Air Force Warrant Officer ever appointed. ... In his youth he was an avid skier, and was selected to compete, as an alternate for Downhill and Slalom for the 1948 Olympics Team in St. Moritz, Switzerland." -- obituary 2003
