"This well constructed log building is located on the original Gore Road, between Toponas and Kremmling. Called the Rock Creek Ranch Road House, it was built by Jim Gates about 1900 and served as a stage stop with rooms and meals for travelers. Both floors had a porch running the length of the building. Section 2 of "A Glossary of Vail Valley Names" focuses on Bachelor Gulch, aptly named for the pioneer bachelors that originally settled there around 1900. Many had previously mined in the area, but with the advent of the Homestead Act, the men that settled at Bachelor Gulch wanted their own land. Vail Associates purchased the land and in 1993, real estate development began.
