He was the husband of Ida Oyler Herwick, both coming to the Eagle River Valley in 1881, locating on the property now known as the Nottingham Ranch. Ida Oyler Herwick, wife of Josiah Herwick. She became a member of Pacific Circle, Women of Woodcraft, Circle No. 132 at Eagle, Colorado, on Dec. 16, 1898.
