"This photograph appeared on the inside cover of the 1928 Eagle High School yearbook [Lux Aquilae]. Although there was never a big population of bighorn sheep on Brush Creek, they were known to winter there. The animals could be found in the summer on New York Mountain, Fools Peak, at Nolan Lake and in the Metheney Park area. The sheep population declined in the mid-1950s due to poaching and disease." -- Kathy Heicher, Early Eagle p.121

Broken track and ties resulting from the rockfall from Lionshead Rock. On March 4, 2014, a large section of the rock broke away from the local landmark and landed on the railway tracks below. The 30 foot boulder missed the Eagle River and nearby houses.

"Clyde (C.F.) Lloyd and his wife Adele, owners of the Red Mountain Ranch, were Chicago residents who spent their summers in Eagle. The arrastra has been used since the Phoenicians to grind ores, most often gold or silver. The construction involves a circular pit paved with flat stones. Large flat-bottomed drag stones are connected to a center post by a long arm. Using horse, mule or human power, the arm drags the large stones over the ore, crushing it. This arrastra at the Gold Bug Mine was powered by a waterwheel, clearly evident in the photograph. It is a cheap but effective...
