A mud wagon prepared to start the run from Wolcott to Steamboat Springs. A more robust vehicle than a coach for use in difficult conditions such as mud, although conditions in this photo are good. Comfort was often a casualty, but wasn't much to start with. More mules would almost surely be added for power to deal with adverse conditions and a larger load. [Courtesy of Stuart Dykstra]

"The McCoy lane looking west. This 1912 photo [says 1911 on verso of photo] shows the front part of the Hotel on the left, [on the right] the blacksmith shop, the big red barn and the front of the old log barn and beyond it, the bridge across Rock Creek. The big barn, approximately fifty by sixty feet in size, was of frame construction and built by C. H. McCoy in 1902. It had stalls for twenty horses and a loft that held ten tons of loose hay....

Harry Groh on horseback at McCoy, Colorado. Harry married Jessie Brooks in 1914. "Harry and Jessie spent their honemoon and continued to live on the Kibbler Place on Grand River until 1915. "In February of 1933 there was no snow at the John Ambos sawmill on the east rim of Rock Creek Canyon and very little anywhere in the McCoy area, for that matter. But a year later, there was plenty of it.
