1930: Front view of the Gypsum Hotel, including an automobile and bicycle (on boardwalk). It is a two story structure with siding. It was built in 1900 by "Banty" Skiff and his wife, you had a dry goods store in part of it.

A History of Eagle County [1940], p. 186: "F. M. Skiff owned the town site of Gypsum, Mrs. Skiff owning the first dry goods store and running the first post office. Mr. Skiff built the first two story building in Gypsum [1900]. This bulding is now the Lundgrens store. p. 187 The upstairs of this place was used for a school."

3) Early Gypsum

Early Gypsum where tents provided original services: hotel, stores, saloon, restaurant. Meals at the Eagle Hotel were 35 cents, a bed was 25 cents. All of these services were located across from the train depot. The location is close to present day Railroad Ave. and Second Street.

The Traveler's Hotel at 318 First Street was built in about 1905 by L. C. Packard. By 1913, it was in the hands of a Mr. Staup. In the 1920s, August Ulin was the owner and it was renamed the Ulin Hotel. It had a good location being a short distance from the train station.

11) Lutheran Church

The First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gypsum shortly after its completion in 1888, before any landscaping was done. There is a man standing on the front steps. In the background, the Skiff Hotel is clearly visible, in addition to some buildings and log structures.

Gypsum store owner Theodore Stremme had this postcard produced by Newvochrome [No. D 3341 printed in Germany]. It was sent May 1, 1909, to Mr. F. B. Cowden in Steamboat...

Casper Schumm stands outside the Travelers' Hotel in Gypsum around 1913. Located at 318 First Street, the Travelers' Hotel was built around 1905 of L. C. Packard. By 1913, it was in the hands of Mr. Staup. August Ulin would take ownership of the hotel in the 1920s, and renamed it the Ulin Hotel. Alda Borah boarded at the hotel her freshmen year of high school while attending the Eagle County High School.
