Kluge was a partner with Thomas E. Lewis in the Lewis & Kluge mercantile at Eagle. Together with Mr. Lewis and Robert McHatton, Kluge also owned the Gypsum Mercantile Co. store at Gypsum. Lewis bought out Kluge's interest in the Eagle store.

"Madison Cassius Gates, born in 1852, like his older brothers Albert and James P., also had a desire for adventure. He migrated [from Ohio] westward to Hebron, Nebraska, around 1881, and later moved to California.

Jack and Ella Layton standing in front of their house in Eagle, Colorado. Jack arrived in Eagle County [then part of Summit County] in 1879. He prospected, hunted and fished on Brush Creek, arriving "early enough to see Indians." [Eagle County History, 1940] He married his wife, Ella, on August 5, 1891. Together, they ranched and lived in Eagle.

Anita Catharine Golburn Caveney with her daughter, Teresa Caveney (Lewis) in the spring of 1917 (Teresa was born Nov. 11, 1916). Teresa is in a baby carriage and Anita is holding her hand while posing for the photo. Anita has a floral bouquet attached to her bodice.
Anita's parents, Henry and Margaret Golburn were from Ireland. Anita married William J. Caveney and they lived in Chicago. Anita died in 1930.

[Anna was born in 1882, so in this photo she should be 28.]
