Alfred Benson’s property on Shrine Pass FSR (Forest Service Road) 709. Originally, there were several cabins (log and board), a blacksmith shop and a barn at the site. This was not Benson's main cabin or barn. The main cabin interior walls had been smoothed with an adz or a broad-axe and these are not smooth. The structure is too small to be the barn. This plaque is at the Mount of the Holy Cross Overlook, also known as Julia's Deck, on the Shrine Pass Trail. Shrine Pass Road [FSR 709], a maintained dirt road, connects Vail and Red Cliff
The first section is Psalm 104:24 and the prayer following is unattributed. Interestingly enough, these same quotations are on plaques at the Grand Canyon and the Bronte Waterfall (England).

8) Julia's Deck

Mount of the Holy Cross Overlook, also known as Julia's Deck, on the Shrine Pass Road [FSR 709], a maintained dirt road, connects Vail and Red Cliff. The overlook was built as handicapped access to the overlook by volunteers representing PAWS, an organization providing recreational facilities for handicapped people.

Joel was the son of Loryne Fitzgerald, a teacher at Red Cliff Union High School. They lived next door to the Beck family in Red Cliff.
