She and her husband homesteaded the J over J Ranch north of Wolcott (now the 4 Eagle Ranch). The story of their early days establishing the ranch was written by their daughter, Sallie Welsh Hartman, and is titled "Early Days in Eagle County" [RARE 978.844 H3331].
