62) Poverty Flats

The Hart mining camp, "Poverty Flats," located on Battle Mountain east of Gilman and just below Bell's Camp. Harry Nottingham was orn in Belles Camp in 1890. There are varous buildings and outbuildings with a group of people gathered together at right midground. It may be a celebration of some sort.

Albert and Newell Buffehr, from left to right, with an unidentified girl standing between them at the side of a house. Both boys are wearing hats and gloves. A dog is at their feet. Jacob Buffehr, their father, worked for the Denver & Rio Grande railroad from 1901 to about 1915, living in Minturn with his family.

The Howard Van Horn house, log construction, in McCoy, Colorado. There is a rocking chair on the front porch, a screen door, and a second story entrance accessible by stairs.
"Howard and Mattie Van Horn and daughters came from Edwards about 1917 looking for a location. They bought part of the former Groh ranch from Hollis Brooks. This property adjoined the old D.O. Bailey place on the south, about 30 acres were under cultivation under a ditch but...

One of the 13 cabins built by a man from Chicago by the name of Kenner who came to the Burns area each summer in the 1890's. The place was known as "Thirteen." The log cabin has a very ornate window and a sod roof.
"Thirteen" was bought by Frank Benton in 1907. Mr. Benton took the windows and built them into his frame house, still on the ranch in Burns.

The George Harris Ranch house in Yarmony Park in 1920. George married Julia Koski in 1915 and they filed on a 320 acre homestead in the southeast corner of Yarmony Park in 1916. "Julia's half brother and sisters, Frank, Sophia and Mary of Denver spent part of every year with them. Mary attended Yarmony School for several years in the early 1920's." -- McCoy Memoirs, p.290
