Steve Rich unloading mining timber at the bottom of the main shaft, level 16. The mining timbers were loaded vertically by the surface crew to fit the main cage that transported them down into the mine. A timber truck can be seen in the foreground and a "stern" warning sign is in the background.

The Belden processing and shipping area for the ore that was mined at Gilman Mine. The loading tippel is the first building on the left (white); next is the steam room and then the dryer.
Box cars are lined up on the tracks by the loading tippel. The box cars at the center of the photo are underneath the Ben Butler Mine.
7. Mantrip

Loading up for transportation to lower levels in the mine. The 16-10 incline goes down to the 18 level (at one time it went all the way to the 24 level). Transporting people was called a mantrip.
